Kate Lovero

Before coming to UCSF, I was an undergraduate at UC San Diego, where I studied cognitive science and neuroscience.  My studies there sparked my interest in understanding how changes in synapse and neuronal properties encode information, and led me to join the UCSF Neuroscience Graduate program and the Nicoll lab.  For my thesis, I am researching the LGI1-ADAM22 protein complex, a transsynaptic structure that controls neuronal excitability via presynaptic and postsynaptic interactions.  Outside of the lab, I work on a project developing low-cost, reliable alternatives to commercial lab equipment for use in labs and hospitals in the developing world.
